Three new trustees were elected to four-year terms at the Cornell University Board of Trustees’ May 23 meeting: David M. Einhorn ’91, Thomas T. Groos ’78 and Mary John Miller ’77. Their terms begin July 1.

Einhorn is president of Greenlight Capital, an investment advisory firm he co-founded in 1996. He is also chairman of the boards of Greenlight Capital Re, Ltd. and Green Brick Partners. Einhorn, who earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, graduated summa cum laude with distinction in all subjects and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is the author of “Fooling Some of the People All of the Time: A Long Short Story” and is co-founder and a trustee of the Einhorn Family Charitable Trust, which helped launch the Engaged Cornell initiative. He is married to Cheryl Strauss Einhorn ’91.

Groos is a partner at City Light Capital, a venture capital firm. Prior to joining City Light, Groos led the Viking Group, a leader in fire suppression systems, for 26 years. In 2009, he negotiated the merger of the company into Minimax-Viking, where he serves as vice chairman of the board. Groos is also the principal of Tyden Ventures. His service activities include Endeavor Detroit, The ImPact Society and the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy. He earned an economics degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Miller was U.S. Department of the Treasury undersecretary for domestic finance from 2012-14. Previously she served as assistant secretary for financial markets from 2010-12. Before joining the government, Miller spent 26 years working for T. Rowe Price Group, where she was a member of the firm’s management committee. She recently rejoined the board of directors of the Urban Institute in Washington and is also a director of ICE Benchmark Administration in the United Kingdom. She earned a degree in government from the College of Arts and Sciences. Miller’s father, James John, a history professor at Cornell for 50 years, retired in 2002 as a professor emeritus.

Five current trustees were re-elected to additional four-year terms: Douglas L. Braunstein ’83, Ruben Jose King-Shaw, Jr. ’83, John A. Noble ’78, Chiaki Tanuma, M.P.S. ’80, and Karen P. Zimmer ’91, M.D. ’98. Trustee Andrew H. Tisch ’71 was re-elected to an additional one-year term.

Alumni-elected trustees Jonathan K. Poe ’82 and Stephanie Keene Fox ’89 were elected to four-year terms, and undergraduate student-elected trustee Yamini Bhandari ’17 was elected to a two-year term.

Poe is sales director at Cisco Systems and formerly held executive positions at General Electric, Lockheed Martin and Gartner Group. His Cornell service includes the Cornell University Council, Cornell Alumni Association and Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network. He will serve as a member of the Board’s Committee on Alumni Affairs and the Committee on Student Life.

Fox is a retired vice president of systems and technology for Bank One (now JPMorgan Chase). She is the immediate past president of the Cornell Alumni Association and she serves as chair of alumnae engagement for the President’s Council of Cornell Women. She will serve as a member of the Board’s Committee on Alumni Affairs and the Committee on Academic Affairs.

Bhandari will serve as a member of the Committee on Student Life, the Committee on Academic Affairs and the Trustee-Community Communications Committee. She is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in industrial and labor relations. At Cornell her services include two terms on the Student Assembly, as a Freshman-at-Large Representative and as Women’s Representative.
