Cornell History: Ezra’s statue unveiled
June 22, 1919
The statue of Ezra Cornell is unveiled on the Arts Quad as part of the university’s 50th anniversary. Mary Cornell, the founder’s daughter, did the honors. The statue was the work of Hermon Atkins McNeil, an instructor in industrial art at Cornell 1886-89. He is perhaps best known as designer of the Standing Liberty quarter, which was minted 191630. His initial appears to the right to the right of the date.
